Lama Lodge

South of the Río Maule and only a couple of hours away from Santiago is a paradise for hikers called Valle del Melado. This valley with an area of 2450 square kms. and only 270 habitants offers an Eldorado for hikers and horseback riders. Natural treasures are waiting to be discovered. Hot springs arise from the slopes of snow-covered volcanoes. Glaciers cover rough mountains, while their melting waters form quainted lagoons. Close to its banks we find magnificient camping spots. The long-distance trail “Sendero de Chile” and one of the “Huaso Trails” cross this amazing area, and some huts along the trails offer accomodation and information.

The Lamalodge is located in the heart of the Melado Valley. The little hut, built in 2003, is a perfect base for exploring the surrounding nature on foot or horseback. The hut offers enough space to lodge 8 people in dormitories, wih a shared bathroom (hot water). You can use the kitchen to prepare hot meals. (Please take along the waste when you leave). If you like to make a guided tour… no problem, guides can be hired at fair rates! The people living in the area also offer horseback tours.

Starting from the Lamalodge, we strongly recommend to visit destinations as Laguna Dial, a fisher's paradise, the Laguna Maule close to the Argentinian border, or the Cordillera Lástima. After passing this amazing mountain range you reach one of the most beautiful virgin forests in the area around the Longaví volcano. Condors and sunshine are guaranteed for at least 6 months. In January you should avoid trekking in lower areas because of huge swarms of horse-flies. Alternatively, you can make great trekkings above 2000 m.

At the Lamalodge you will be far away from civilisation and without luxury: a real nature-lover's experience in stunning, almost unknown landscapes.
