Description: The Driving school for children, located on the Foundations property, is used once a week by schools throughout the region. Our brochure is used as a guide for teachers to teach their students about the ways of the road and how to bike safe and responsibly.

Traveling accessible for everyone

Description: Traveling South America is a big challenge for people with disabilities. We don’t see this getting better anytime in the near future. We are hoping that through our project we can make traveling accessible for everyone. Our project aims to help Chilean tourism companies understand how to improve their infrastructure so they too can make our goal possible.

FairChile donate 2000 native trees

Description: FaiChile give credits to schools, foundation y plant nurseries. The finance interest of 19% have to be paid back once a year in form of native trees at a price of $ chil. 175 for trees with a age of 1 year. This plants we donate to public institutions, in order to reforestate Chile with native forest.

Geocaching helps the earthquake region

Description: To promote the 7th region Maule after the earthquake, the Foundation TrekkingChile and Centro GPS Garmin hide 16 Geocaches in the provinces Cordillera, Valle Central, Costa Cordillera and Costa. With your attendance you help the victims, use the intact touristic infrastructure and show the world, that Maule is not gone for touristic activities. We need you!

Earthquake relief II

Description: Three weeks after the worse earthquake, the earth is still shaking. The media reports of huge relief projects, but in practical a large number of families was in deed not visited by help organizations. Luckily the earthquake itself, caused only few human victims, but the catastrophe shows itself even more everyday. The infrastructure of whole cities is destroyed. No special goods are missing, it is just missing everything.

Start of reconstruction of demaged houses

Description: The afthershocks are not going to end, neither the donations of our numerous donors , our foundation Trekkingchile and Codeff
At the 17th of march we started to allocate a large amount of constructing material.
Codeff organized together with the foundation director Christoph Wander and 8 voluntary helpers the allocation. They were transported with a Mercedes Sprinter from the city of Talca to various constructing sites. Many affected families and their neighbours support us with the delivery of the materials.

Education for earthquake victims

Description: Children living in the earthquake region Maule had vacation for the last two month. Just a few days before the school wanted to open their doors again we suffered one of the haviest earthquakes in history. Schools are partly or completly destroyed. Many of them want start soon school saison. Specialests have to exermine the constuctions first.
At 11.3.2010 we started our education program, working with the kids from 6 families, aprox. 15 children.
Many families dont have houses anymore. Their kids are sleeping often in tents, waiting for help. People lost their jobs since the infrastructure is not existing anymore. All this is causing high social stress and pressure in the families live.

Description: The foundation “Trekkingchile” dealed mostly with environmental projects and eco-tourism. That changed promptly when the earth shake in the morning of the 27th February 2010. The actual situation force us to attend relief projects in favor for the victims of the earthquake. Our environmental budget was rededicated. This decision is supported by our foundation directors and the dispensers are informed about that.
We have to admit that we are no experts in that field. But we can, together with the regional NGO CODEFF, observe the relief projects and guarantee the use of the donations.

driving school for children

Description: After a construction time of 6 month we are finishing the first chilean driving school for children. Additionally we plantd 60 different species of native trees around the school. For parents or teachers we built a small coffee shop where we are storing the Kettcars during the nights.

3000 native trees for reforastation

Description: At the 14.05.2009 the municipality of Talca and the NGO foundation Trekkingchile signed an agreement on the mains square of the city. During the same event the foundation donated 3000 native trees to the municipality and the forest office CONAF.

Description: The NGO Naturefriends international signed the partnership with Trekkingchile, the first partnership with a soutamerican NGO in history.
With over 500,000 members in 50 member and partner organisations, the Friends-of-Nature movement, founded in 1895, is one of the largest non-governmental organisations (NGOs) worldwide.

Solar pond in the Altiplano

Description: The richness of nothern Chile is not only cupper, but also the hardly used sun force. For financial reasons the constructions of photovoltaics are not accesible for the comon people. At night temperatures falls above the OC. For heating they use in the desert or Altiplano the Tholabush or the quite rare bush Llarreta. Solar ponds produca in a very cheap way hot water for heating and the shower. Bigger settlements can produce with the pond energy. The foundation Trekking Chile is looking for sponsor for the first pond in the northern Altiplano at the alture of 3.500m.

Small hydroelectric power plant

Description: n Chile to built common hydroelectric power plants it is only accessibly to enourmous groups because of the required quantity of water, the gigantic volume of construction and for the political reasons. However, an Austrian patent can produce in a simple and cheap way, electricity where you only need a low hight of fall and a little water volume. These power plants can be used as well in little settlements, and the electricity is not only produced as well the water will be enriched with oxygen. Already 14 families are supplied with the energy.

Fair Chile

Description: 1000 km by air plane, 2300 km by car or 5600 km gone by train release approx 200 kg of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere – pro person. This greenhouse gas is one of the causes of climatic change. Although these changes have always existed, it has not been happening that fast since two million years. The effects on our planet are threatening and we as responsible people are the only ones who can change something.
The project “FairChile” of the TrekkingChile foundation will surely not be able to stop global tendencies but we can contribute to an improvement of our environment. We need your support.

Museum La Chakana

Description: In many South American countries traditions get lost while the society is modernizing and progressing. The youth of traditional living communities, like indigenous people or shepherds, leave their original home and settle in suburbs of cities. In most cases that means losing contact to their community and additionally not being able to establish contact to the modern community of the city. Leftovers are: left villages, unemployed youth and lost traditions. To counter this problem, the foundation TrekkingChile, together with Wikinger Reisen, is building a “museum-village” in 3,500 m height, just outside Putre.

Description: In the very north of Chile our accommodation and native museum “La Chakana” offers First Aid Courses for local mountain and trekking guides. They are supported by the Outdoor-School-South and funded by Sercotec. The course is tailor made for the specialities of the region and the needs of the local guides.
