Who we are

Trekkingchile.com is based on the experience of the tourist guide and mountaineer Franz Schubert and the tourism entrepeneur Kathrein Splett, the founders of Turismo El Caminante und the Hotel Casa Chueca .

Both of us have been living in Chile for several years, and we wanted to share our fascination with the rugged beauty Chile can offer to nature loving trekkers, climbers, and whitewater fans. Especially the central region is mostly overlooked by other guidebooks, which is a pity in our opinion. That's why these pages are especially dedicated to the attractions of the region between the rivers Aconcagua and Bío Bío.

Franz Schubert

b. in 1965 in Austria, has been guiding nature tours worldwide for more than ten years. In 1993 he and his partner Kathrein moved to Chile and started their tour business El Caminante and the Casa Chueca guesthouse near Talca. He prefers to be out and about in the mountains, and he has started to conquer the little-developed Central Andes of Chile on his many tours. E-Mail

Kathrein Splett

b. in 1968 in Bavaria, has accompanied Franz in the adventure of living in Chile. Four years in Sweden, five in Brazil and her studies of tourism managment played their part in the decision of settling in Chile in 1993. Kati is in charge of Casa Chueca and Turismo El Caminante , loves (and raises) lamas and her dog Rapunzel. E-Mail
