How to get there:
From Concepción you drive in direction of Cabrero until reaching Los Angeles. Now the way leads to the East until arriving in Villa Ralco, the capital of Alto Biobio.

By following the street which leads to the valley of the river Quenco it’s a distance of 25 km until reaching the starting point. During the way one passes Pitril.
The way is in good condition and therefore is passable for all kinds of vehicles.

Description:
The distance of the whole trail is 22.3 km and is subdivided into 3 parts.

Day 1: Centro Cultural Cauñicú – Laguna Cauñicú

This trail takes 3 hours on a horseback with some breaks.
It starts at the cultural centre of Cauñicú which is a place where all people meet each other and where many activities are possible.
Before reaching the street which leads to Rahueco the way goes along the sports field and the cemetery. It’s a wide street with some ascents until the river bed of the Cauñicus.

You will get to the place which is called Meseta Limpia. It’s really nice and a perfect place to relax next to the river. From here the way is less wide but still in good condition.
We will cross summer meadows of the community and some villages as well as different forests like Oaks, Beeches and Coigüe. Finally it leads along the river Cauñicu to the lagoon Cauñicu where you will find beautiful forms of water surrounded by mountains. There is a camping equipped with basic installations for the community.

Day 2: Circuito Laguna Cauñicú
Starting point is the camping near the lagoon Cauñicú. Hiking will be easy; the distance is 4.7 km with.
From the camping the way crosses summer meadows of Emilio and Rafael Naupa until reaching the Northern bank. There is a Oak and Araucaria forest which is situated near the summer meadow of Clementina Naupa where it’s possible to taste delicious cheese.
Now the way leads to the Eastern bank where you where the water of the lagoon is really deep. It’s probable that you will have the possibility to watch a high account of birds, above all ducks and bustards. Finally we will arrive at the camping Laguna Cauñicú again by crossing the summer meadow of Sebastián huenteao.

Day 3: Circuito Pinalerias Cauñicú
This way leads us to the pinalerias of the community which are situated at a height of 1500 m. The starting point is the camping Laguna Cauñicú from where we return to the summer meadow of Ramón Naupa. There we take the way which ascents in direction of the south and passes for some Oak forests and Quilas (like bamboo).
After approximately 1 hour of ascent we reach a viewpoint. From here it’s possible to get an amazing view over the mountain range Velluda in the North as well as the volcano Copahue in the South. The way leads through forests of Oaks and different grasses until getting to forests of Araucarias with beautiful sights to the volcano Callaqui.
These trees are holy for the publicity and therefore they need to be threatening with much respect.
